Receiving Meals

Need temporary assistance in obtaining meals? The Big Orange Meal Share is a short-term assistance program that allocates meals to students in need. Big Orange Meal Share is also available during summer semester(s) and winter break. It is not available during holiday/administrate closing. Our office will review the application, determine eligibility, and notify you with a decision by email.

How do meals get added?

After reviewing your application, the Office of the Dean Students works in collaboration with Vol Dining to add meals directly to the student’s MyUTK account. There is no physical card and meals are added after you receive communication from the DOS staff. When students visit the dining hall, they indicate they have guest meals to the cashier. Meals added to your MyUTK can be used at any all-you-care-to-eat dining facility, e.g., The Fresh Food Company in Stokely Hall, Southern Kitchen in Vol Hall, and Rocky Top Dining, in the Presidential Courtyard  during regular business hours. Note: Students who submit a 2nd or 3rd application may be asked to schedule a time to discuss your request and current meal allocation with a staff member in the Office of the Dean of Students.
