Government
The government or representative groups such as the Student Government Association coordinate activities, initiate new programs and/or govern a group of students to address students' needs and express student views. These organizations provide the unique opportunity to take on leadership roles and gain exposure to the inner-workings of the University of Tennessee.

There are more than thirty religious organizations at The University of Tennessee that support the diverse religious interests or denominations of students. These organizations actively promote religious instruction and fellowship, and many facilitate volunteer efforts in the local community.

Service/Philanthropic
There are numerous opportunities to serve at The University of Tennessee, in the Knoxville community, and surrounding areas by joining one of the various service organizations. These groups aim to adopt causes, connect with area agencies or facilitate volunteer projects. Membership requirements may include a requirement to work for and/or an interest in a particular cause. Academic and Leadership Honor Societies
There are numerous professional/academic organizations at The University of Tennessee. Professional development opportunities abound on our campus, both inside and outside the classroom. These organizations provide an opportunity for individuals to discuss and share information and promote programs related to a specific academic discipline or field. There are many honor society organizations as well. Students who are invited to join honor societies must demonstrate a high level of academic achievement and may be required to demonstrate an interest in a particular career or discipline.

International Student
The cultural and international organizations at The University of Tennessee exist to foster cultural diversity and awareness, and support their members within the campus community. Often, these groups provide unique opportunities for members and non-members to explore other values and belief systems, gain perspective, and create important contacts and networks with individuals and groups in the local community.

Residential hall organizations are a great way to meet new people and get involved with your fellow hall mates. These groups provide plenty of fun activities like social events and educational programming to promote your residential hall’s environment and development.

Sports and recreation organizations seek to encourage participation and engage students in competitive, intramural sports and/or recreation-based activities.
